These electronic systems have been designed to meet a wide range of needs experienced by users of this type of wheelchair. One of the most important features is modularity, making the systems adaptable to the particular needs of each user according to the type and degree of handicap involved. The overall system includes an innovative user-machine interface, a complete sensory subsystem (ultrasonic, infrared, vision, etc), and an advanced strategy of control and navigation. This allows different alternatives for guidance and guarantees user safety and comfort.}, keywords = {assisted mobility, automated wheelchair, computerised navigation, electronic guidance systems, handicapped aids, infrared sensors, innovative user-machine interface, IR sensors, mobile robots, navigation, robot vision, sensors, sensory subsystem, SIAMO wheelchair, Ultrasonic Sensors, US sensors, user comfort, user interfaces, user safety}, issn = {1070-9932}, doi = {10.1109/100.924361}, attachments = {https://geintra-uah.org/en/system/files/private/Integral-System-for-Assisted-Mobility.pdf}, author = {Manuel Mazo and Ure{\~n}a, J. and Garcia, Juan Carlos and Felipe Espinosa and Jose L.
